Luke Donnelly, a 21 year old professional golfer from Thomastown in Kilkenny with a PGA Euro pro tour card for 2018. Representing his home club Mount Juliet Estate Golf Club in Kilkenny. Luke began playing golf at 11 and quickly started to show potential, entering his first competition the Leinster u13 championship and qualified for the All Ireland finals finishing 11th from this he set his sights at becoming a professional. At 14 the prestigious Mount Juliet Golf club decided to start a junior club and Luke was asked to be their first Junior Captain. He had a very successful year as junior captain and was asked to stay a second term as Junior Captain. The experience he gained during those 2 years has proved invaluable and he will be forever thankful to the management and members of Mount Juliet Golf Club.
Playing off a handicap of 3 Luke won the Irish amateur Top Golfer prize in 2013 at 16. Luke became a scratch golfer at 17 and won the prestigious Mount Juliet scratch cup. Luke then went on to compete for Kilkenny Golf Club and won the Fred Daly All Ireland team event in 2015, going on to represent Ireland in the 4 nations cup winning his 4 matches. Luke was then invited to join the Gecko Elite Golf Academy in Marbella by Mr Ken Lingwood. Here again he got invaluable experience and learned a lot about preparation, fitness and course management. He had won the leading amateur prize on on a number of occasions.
Luke then turned his full attention to golf, competing in the Irish amateur circuit after finishing his leaving certificate. Luke went on to compete in the Alps tour Q school as a amateur and won a full Alps tour card for the 2017 season, but decided he was not ready to turn professional. In February 2018 Luke decided he was ready to become a full tour professional just before gaining his Euro pro tour card for the 2018 season. The experience he has gained from this has been priceless as a young Pro. Luke is a dedicated professional and has put a huge amount of effort and behind the scenes work getting this far, he now has set a goal of making the European Tour for the 2020 season.
